Fire And Outage Reported After Amazon Web Services Data Center In Dubai Was Hit by objects

  • Amazon’s Health Dashboard’s statement: “We want to provide some additional information on the power issue in a single Availability Zone in the ME-CENTRAL-1 Region. At around 4:30 AM PST, one of our Availability Zones (mec1-az2) was impacted by objects that struck the data center, creating sparks and fire. The fire department shut off power to the facility and generators as they worked to put out the fire. We are still awaiting permission to turn the power back on, and once we have, we will ensure we restore power and connectivity safely.”

Dubai Wants Hotels To Support Guests Struggling With Stay Extensions

  • Hotels in Dubai received an email from the Department of Economy and Tourism instructing them to provide full support to tourists affected by flight cancellations or delays.

  • “We kindly request your cooperation in ensuring that hotel guests who were due to check out but are unable to do so as a result of these circumstances are offered the option to extend their stay under the same conditions as their initial booking.”

  • Hotels were also told to notify authorities immediately if a guest cannot afford an extended stay, and to share details such as the original booking, extension period, and whether a third party is covering the costs

  • Emergency response teams were immediately activated and have been managing the situation in close coordination with relevant authorities.
