• The UAE has welcomed the US decision to remove Syria from its list of state sponsors of terrorism, calling it a positive step that could help the country’s recovery and future development.

• The announcement comes after US President Donald Trump confirmed that the process had officially been set in motion, with the decision now moving to Congress for review.

• In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) said the move could support Syria’s reconstruction efforts, attract new investment and help the country reconnect with the global economy.

• President Trump announced that he had informed Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa of the decision earlier this week.

• Before it officially takes effect, the proposal will now go through a 45-day review period in the US Congress.
