• According to The National, the sounds were caused by the UAE’s Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system, an advanced missile defence setup designed to intercept threats high above the ground.

• The UAE’s THAAD system detects and intercepts incoming missiles more than 100km above the country.
