Dubai Police’s App Helped Save A UAE Athlete During A Medical Emergency

• The Al Wasl Volleyball Club delegation was in Kazan, Russia, for a scheduled training camp when one of the players developed severe abdominal pain late at night.

• Head of delegation Abdullah Bourguiba rushed him to a nearby hospital, where doctors diagnosed him with acute appendicitis and warned that immediate surgery was needed to prevent the appendix from rupturing.

• Before the operation could begin, the hospital requested either internationally recognised medical insurance or full payment upfront.

• The delegation, which was only in Russia temporarily, didn’t have insurance accepted by the hospital, and arranging a large payment in the early hours of the morning wasn’t exactly easy.

• At around 3:30am, Bourguiba reached out to the Dubai Police’s emergency service.

• Within moments, Dubai Police’s Command and Control Centre responded. They coordinated with the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs to help resolve the crisis, which then contacted the hospital directly and provided guarantees covering all expenses… after which the hospital operated on the player and saved his life.
