• A newly approved federal law amendment aims to bring a lot more clarity around sick leaves taken during times of epidemics or pandemics.

• The Council has approved amendments to the UAE’s communicable diseases law, ensuring employees who are required to stay away from work during an pandemic can do so while receiving their full salary…without any of their days being deducted from their annual or sick leave 🙌

• Under the new amendments, employees who are infected with a communicable disease, suspected of being infected, or identified as close contacts during an epidemic or pandemic must be kept away from the workplace if their presence could put others at risk 👩🏼‍💻

• Once the relevant health authority issues a certificate, employers must prevent affected employees from attending the workplace. The move is designed to prioritise public health while ensuring workers don’t face financial setbacks for following official medical guidance 😷

• The amendments are intended to remove that uncertainty by setting out clear rules for future epidemics and pandemics. They form part of the UAE’s broader strategy to strengthen its response to communicable diseases, making it easier to prevent, detect and manage future outbreaks while protecting both public health and employee rights 🇦🇪
