Cafes, Hotels And Malls In The UAE Will Pay Music Fees From December

• The UAE’s Ministry of Economy and Tourism has launched a new Collective Management in Music Guide, which sets out how music rights will be managed and introduces fees for businesses and venues that use music commercially.

• The fees will apply to a range of businesses and venues, including restaurants, cafes, hotels, shopping malls, fitness centres, airlines, radio stations, TV channels, concerts and similar events.

• The fees will depend on factors including the nature of the music use and the size of the business.

• Licences will be valid for one year and can be renewed, with different fee brackets depending on how the music is being used and the size of the establishment.

• Educational and academic institutions, government entities, and music used during national occasions will not be charged under the framework.

• Personal celebrations and other events that are non-commercial will also be exempt.
