Dubai Accounts Lose Thousands Of Followers Overnight As Instagram’s AI Removes Inactive Profiles

• Dubai residents woke up this week, opened Instagram, and immediately thought: “Wait… who unfollowed?” Turns out, it wasn’t personal.

• Instagram’s massive AI-driven purge officially started deleting inactive and fake accounts, and follower counts across the UAE dropped overnight.

• The platform kicked off the clean-up on May 6, 2026, using advanced AI systems to remove bot accounts, spam profiles, and what Instagram calls “coordinated inauthentic behaviour.”

• Basically, the app decided it was finally time to evict the ghost followers who haven’t liked a post since 2021.

• Radio presenter Eve even shared a video showing her account dropping from 43.7K to 42.8K followers overnight.

• Kylie Jenner reportedly lost around 15 million followers, BLACKPINK lost nearly 10 million, while football legends Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo also saw millions disappear from their accounts.

• This wasn’t a glitch, and no, Instagram didn’t suddenly hate everyone overnight. The platform is actively using AI to target bot farms, fake engagement, inactive accounts, and spam behaviour to make the app feel more authentic again.
