UAE Family Renews Search For The Boy Who Went Missing In MV Dara Tragedy

• More than six decades later, a Dubai family is still searching for a boy who disappeared during one of the Gulf’s deadliest maritime disasters. Amin was just 5 or 6 years old when the MV Dara sank off Dubai on April 8, 1961. Now, a recently highlighted photograph has given his family fresh hope that he may have survived. The family is once again asking the community for help in finding answers.

• Amin was travelling to Karachi for a holiday with his mother, siblings and an Emirati caretaker when disaster struck. A massive explosion caused a fire that eventually sank the MV Dara, killing 238 of the 819 people on board. As smoke and panic spread, Amin and his older brother Sharaf were taken to the deck. The brothers were holding hands but became separated in the chaos. Sharaf was rescued and returned to Dubai, but Amin was never found.

• The caretaker also managed to save Amin’s baby brother, who was later reunited with his father. Amin’s mother and some of his siblings did not survive the tragedy.
