This Dubai Centre Offers Free Care And Support If You Overstay Your Visa

• At first glance, the Center for Harbouring, operated by the General Directorate of Identity and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA Dubai), might sound like a government facility where people simply wait to leave the country. But a visit inside tells a very different story.

• While the centre shared impressive figures, including 11,696 people supported during the first half of 2026, it was the personal stories that brought its mission to life.

• There was a Kenyan woman who arrived in the UAE hoping to find work. Instead, she found herself in an extremely difficult situation while caring for her 2-month-old baby.

• After reaching the centre, she received accommodation, healthcare and essential support while GDRFA Dubai worked with the relevant authorities to resolve her case and complete the procedures needed for her future.

• Another Asian woman who was an artist and had been sleeping in a public phone booth before being brought to the centre. She received accommodation, medical care and even personal beauty care services before eventually returning home.

• Although later on she later spoke negatively about her experience, officials stressed that it never changed their approach. Their responsibility, they explained, is to provide the highest standard of care to everyone who walks through their doors.
