• A top UAE official, Dr. Jamal Mohammed Al Kaabi, Secretary-General of the National Media Authority, didn’t mince words when addressing the issue. He highlighted that many people were quite upset by advertisements featuring non-Emiratis in traditional attire, especially in real estate ads.

• Dr. Al Kaabi firmly stated, This is unacceptable, playing with money in a Kandura offends Emirati Identity.’ This new policy is a direct response to growing concerns over the misuse of Emirati attire online and in paid content.

• The new policy comes after a rise in instances where traditional Emirati dress was not quite hitting the mark. Dr. Al Kaabi pointed out specific examples that caused a stir, such as non-Emiratis presenting content in traditional attire while using ‘broken, non-Emirati dialects.’
